03 Dec Render to Reality | Sidney Road Master Bathroom Remodel
Driving up the windy, tree-lined approach to this hidden gem was nothing short of magical. This home has lots of large windows overlooking a country pond with the master suite facing east to watch the sun rise over the peaceful lily pads. The well-kept home is a combination of both rustic and polished with highlights of aqua. Not the normal combination when you think of pine tones but this worked perfectly with their setting. Just off the entrance was the master suite, a continuation of that same palette until we got to the master ensuite.
Even though there is a corner with what feels like an abundance of natural light with large windows, the space feels dark and stale. It has a large L-shape footprint with basic builder-grade finishes and a massive soaker tub that they barely use. It just wasn’t jiving with the rest of the curated home. You felt like the focus was on the use of acrylic materials and that all had to go!
To start, the layout wasn’t going to be changing much, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be strategic in lightening it up. The options were, to give more open floor space at the windows so the light can bounce off the floor OR open up the shower area to allow natural light to come into that space, keeping in mind that it is a steam shower. Which of these designs are you drawn to? The left opens up the space and keeps the existing steam shower unit to reduce the cost of the project, the right triggers a new steam shower.
Opening the door to this space was a breath of fresh air, to the point that the paint finish on the vanity is called…”Meditative”. Between the balance to tie in the natural pine wood tones with the soft sky tones in the tile work, this space is like entering into a spa. There are subtle features such as round mirrors and glass on the sconces that tie into the shape of the chandelier and penny rounds on the shower floor.
Kudos on the exquisite tile work in this master bathroom and for the attention to detail from Walz Contracting, you did us proud! We welcome the homeowners back into your beautiful ensuite. We know you will enjoy it!
